Nostalgia DVDs

Councillor David Nixon, Mayor of Newark, with Joanna Parlby from the Newark Advertiser (programme sponsors) and Andrew Blow at the launch of Bygone Newark at the Town Hall.

Blow By Blow have produced several local nostalgia DVDs obtainable inexpensively from this website and from local retailers. Our Bygone DVDs of Lincoln and Newark show “your home town as it used to be” from approximately the 1920s to the 1970s.

Pre-war films showing the people, fashions, shops, and transport of the time in town centre streets are very popular. Sometimes people are attending a particular event — for instance a Royal visit. On other occasions the cameramen of yesterday were simply filming the familiar streets of their own town. Either way, their recordings are invaluable to us today.

Bygone DVDs are great for local families, great for local schools, and great for those researching their family history. If Blow By Blow is creating media to support educational initiatives or for town planning and re-generation issues, the Bygone material - originating on old film stock but now transferred to professional video - is available to inform and improve the project.
