Meet Andrew Blow

ANDREW BLOW (above) - Media Strategist, Writer, Producer, Director, Cameraman, Editor and Voice over artist. A media all-rounder with a staff background in newspapers, radio and broadcast TV. A Master Member of the Institute of Videography.

Andrew, a former print and radio journalist, learned his television skills in a 13-year-stint for Yorkshire Television, where he worked (sometimes on screen) for the nightly station flagship Calendar and associated bulletins and programmes.

Late in 1988 he left and made an early entrance into an increasingly freelance world…..created by technological change and the 1990 Broadcasting Act which awarded 25 per cent of new production work to independent producers.

The day after his departure Andrew began filming “THE DEAN’S FAREWELL” a documentary (for YTV!) about the 20 years of innovation and modernisation brought to the life of Lincoln Cathedral by the retiring Dean, Oliver Twistleton-Wykeham-Fiennes. Next came “BARNEY’S LAST STAND,” a documentary about Barn Owls which won a Harris Distribution Award for Environmental Achievement.

Already it was becoming clear that the broadcast market was scarcely viable as an increasing number of independent producers chased the same number of commissions.

Andrew quickly diversified into nostalgia and business programmes. “OPERATION FAILED TO RETURN” told the story of a wartime bomber base whose veterans returned to unveil a memorial to their dead. The veterans presented a copy of this video to Prince Charles. Later “BYGONE LINCOLN” a collection of old films of the city  researched and scripted into a VHS product to celebrate the centenary of the Lincolnshire Echo, was a major success.

In business television Andrew has written, produced and directed programmes for BRITISH STEEL, PEARL ASSURANCE, LITTLEWOODS and INTERFLORA  among many others. There have been many credits too in Education and Training.

Scriptwriting skills have been commissioned by such diverse bodies as the HEALTH AND SAFETY EXECUTIVE and WILLIAM HILL BOOKMAKERS. Andrew’s television presentation skills were utilised when BBC’S “BIG DAY OUT” programme used him as a pundit on their visit to Lincoln.
